Hand Up Accountability: I Was Wrong About Texas. But Not Really

I may have jumped the gun in my last blog, where I predicted Texas would beat Georgia and become the standard of college football and claimed the Texas Football Dynasty would start Saturday. Despite my utmost confidence in the Longhorns, they did not score a single point in the first half and lost to Georgia 30-15.

However, I still believe that Texas is the best team in the country, and when the smoke clears at the end of this wild season, the Longhorns will be National Champs.

More than anything, this game highlights just how crazy this season has been and, specifically, how unpredictable the SEC is this year. Texas lost to Georiga, who lost to Alabama, who lost to Tennessee (and Vandy), who lost to Arkansas. The SEC is a microcosm of this college football season, where we are seeing teams that we normally expect to be undefeated until Championship weekend suffer early losses in the season. All of the top teams in the SEC have had big-time wins but also losses. It would not shock me if, come playoff time, we see Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas all have a spot in the Top 12. I truthfully believe that an SEC team is going to come out on top as National Champions, it’s just a matter of who gets hot when.

As I detailed in a couple of blogs this season, I think top-to-bottom Texas has the best roster in the country. It’s hard to overlook how badly Kirby out-coached Sark on Saturday, but I believe in Sark’s ability to adjust his game plan if they end up playing the Dogs again. Again this season has been super unpredictable, but that’s the beauty of this new playoff format. These teams can all afford losses, and come December all that matters is how they bounce back from these losses.

So, while my prediction may have been a little over the top and bold, I am not counting the Longhorns out as Title Contenders, and with the depth and future the Longhorns have, I am certainly not ruling out a potential Dynasty either. I can’t wait to see what happens as we enter the back half of the season.
