Dark Horse Playoff Teams
We have officially entered the last month of the regular season and there are a few teams on the outside looking into the playoffs that I think have a real shot to make it. Here are my favorite dark horse playoff teams.
Ole Miss Rebels
The Rebels came into the year with massive expectations, and after suffering two losses early in the season, they have their backs against the wall. However, this weekend, they can jump right back into the playoff race if they can upset the #2 Georiga Bulldogs. Vegas has them listed as only 2.5 point underdogs, so expect this game to be close. If Ole Miss wins this weekend, they become a real playoff contender.
Kansas State Wildcats
Kansas State is a very interesting team. They are sitting at 7-2 overall and 4-2 in conference play. Only three teams are ahead of the Wildcats in the Big 12, one being Colorado, who they beat, and another being Iowa State, who they play in the last game of the season. If they can win out and Colorado loses once, they are going to be in the Big 12 championship game. If they win that game, they are in the playoffs. While it may seem like a lot needs to happen, this is all very feasible. I like the Wildcat’s chances to run the table and make the playoff.
Smu Mustangs
This one isn’t as much of a dark horse as people may think, but the fact of the matter is only one ACC team is going to find its way into the playoffs. SMU is undefeated in ACC play and sitting with only one loss overall to #8 BYU. The ponies have a very easy schedule remaining, and I expect them to win out in the regular season. The problem is, in order to make the playoff, they are going to have to upset Miami in the ACC championship. However, we’ve seen Miami have some very close games in ACC play, and SMU beating them is a very real possibility. If they can win the ACC, they will be in the playoffs.
