Analyzing The Craziest CFB Saturday of All Time

I am still recovering from the craziness that took place on Saturday. We saw  #1 Alabama and #4 Tennessee take losses against two unranked teams. Vanderbilt fans were so shocked that they took down Alabama, that they stormed the field, and proceeded to throw the goalpost in the Nashville River. And I don’t blame them either, this is something that in my 21 years of life, has not happened once. Arkansas took care of business at home defeating the Vols, and stormed the field as well. But these two teams weren’t the only Top 10 teams that faced defeat on Saturday.

There was another field storming that took place in Minnesota as they defeated #11 USC. Three field-stormings in one day is not something that has ever happened in CFB history, truly showing how weird Saturday was. #9 Missouri and #10 Michigan, suffered losses as well. That’s half the teams in the top 10 of college football that lost. I’m not sure that has ever happened in the history of CFB. So the question that comes out of all this craziness is how do these teams recover?

The Answer: The 12-team playoff. This is why the 12-team playoff was needed. We saw Alabama beat Georgia 2 weeks ago, which in previous years could’ve ended Georiga’s season. Then Bama goes to Vanderbilt and gets upset, but they too still have a chance for the postseason. Tennessee’s season surely would’ve been over in previous years, but now if they can beat either the Tide or Georgia later in the season it would be hard to argue against them as a playoff team. I think the 12-team playoff was absolutely needed so that days like Saturday don’t derail a team's entire season. It makes the games for one or two-loss teams in October and November so much more meaningful. So while it was the craziest Saturday I’ve seen in my lifetime, life goes on for many of these teams as they make their push to December football.
