Championship Weekend Predictions
Championship Weekend is upon us, so here are my predictions for every conference championship game. (Games with stars next to them are being played at a neutral site)
CUSA Championship: Jacksonville State vs Western Kentucky
Friday 12/6 7:00 PM EST (JVST -5)
Prediction: Jacksonville State beats Western Kentucky 24-23
Jacksonville State is playing in its first conference championship game, and WKU is trying to win its first CUSA Championship since 2017. Last Weekend WKU beat JVST at home 19-17, This time, I think Jacksonville State gets their revenge and beat the Hilltoppers at home.
Mountain West Championship: #10 Boise State vs #20 UNLV
Friday 12/6 8:00 PM EST (Boise -4)
Prediction: Boise State beats UNLV 28-20
The winner of this game goes to the CFB playoffs. It’s as simple as that. These teams played back in October in Vegas, and Boise came out on top 29-24. I think in Boise, the Broncos will take care of business and claim the fourth seed in the playoffs.
American Championship: #19 Army vs tulane
Friday 12/6 8:00 PM EST (Tulane -5.5)
Prediction: Tulane beats Army 28-10
These teams have not played yet this season. Tulane, to me, is clearly the better team. Not only that, but they played and handled the triple option against Navy earlier this season, winning that game 35-0. I don’t think Army is going to give the Green Wave many problems this year. Give me Tulane big in this one.
MAC Championship: Ohio vs Miami (OH) *
Saturday 12/7 12:00 PM EST (Miami -1.5)
Prediction Miami (OH) beats Ohio 27-14
Miami defeated Ohio 30-20 earlier this year, and I don’t see a very different outcome this time around. Give me the Redhawks big at ford field.
Sun Belt championship: Lousiana vs Marshall
Saturday 12/7 7:30 PM EST (UL -6)
Prediction: Marshall beats Louisiana 36-35
Louisiana has had a great season, winning ten games. They are a high-powered offense and will put up some points. On the flip side, Marshall is red hot, on a six-game winning streak after starting the season 3-3. They also have had a harder schedule and are more battle-tested. Give me Marshall in a close one.
big 12 Championship: #15 Arizona State vs #16 Iowa State *
Saturday 12/7 12:00 PM EST (ASU -2.5)
Prediction: Iowa State beats ASU 21-17
Arizona State has won 10 games for the first time since 2014. Iowa State is looking to win their first-ever Big-12 championship game. The winner goes to the CFB Playoffs. This game should be absolutely electric with both teams having so much to lose. I heavily believe in the adage: “Defense wins championships” and Iowa State has the better defense. Give me the Cyclones to advance to the playoffs.
SEC Championship: #3 Texas vs #8 Georgia *
Saturday 12/7 4:00 PM EST (Texas -2.5)
Prediction Texas Beats Georgia 24-21
If you’ve read my blog, you know how high I am on the Longhorns. I believe that they have the best roster in the sport, from top to bottom. In Georgia’s 30-15 victory over Texas earlier in the year, the Longhorns got off to the worst start possible. I expect them to manage the clock and win the turnover battle this time around, as Georiga’s Carson Beck is certainly going to huck up an INT or two. Give me the Longhorns in a revenge game.
ACC Championship #8 SMU vs #17 Clemson *
Saturday 12/7 8:00 PM EST (SMU -2.5)
Clemson beats SMU 27-24
Dabo Swinney is going to do it. I don’t want Clemson to win in any manner shape or form, but something deep down tells me that Dabo Swinney is going to do it. SMU’s been fantastic this season, only suffering one loss to BYU. Clemson is good on both sides of the ball, and if they can get the offense to score over 24 points I think they win. Give me the Tigers to be the Ponies in a close one, and make selection sunday real interesting.
Big 10 Championship: #1 Oregon vs #3 Penn State
Saturday 12/7 8:00 PM EST (Oregon -3.5)
Prediction: Oregon beats Penn State 35-17
First things first I think the line that Vegas set in this game is either the biggest trap of all time or the easiest money of all time. James Franklin does not win these games, simple as that. On top of that fact, I think Penn State is probably the most overrated team in the country. They’ve only played one top 10 team this season in Ohio State, and lost. Give me the best team in the country by a large margain.
